Frozen Yellowfin Sole HGT | Frozen Limanda aspera (Yellowfin Sole) HGT

Frozen Yellowfin Sole HGT

Frozen Yellowfin Sole HGT is the wild-caught, deep-frozen form of Limanda aspera — a small North Pacific flatfish (family Pleuronectidae) marketed as "sole" or "flounder" and also known as golden plaice. "HGT" denotes Headed, Gutted, Tail-on (tail-off available on request): the viscera and head are removed, but the fish is left whole otherwise — a ready-to-cook, bone-in presentation that minimizes yield loss versus filleting. Harvested mainly in the Bering Sea / Aleutian Islands (BSAI) by the United States and Russia, it is a lean, mild, delicately flaking whitefish and a true fish product (allergen: Fish) — NOT a crustacean, NOT cephalopod, and distinct from true soles (Solea spp.).

What It Is

Our Frozen Yellowfin Sole HGT is landed, chilled, headed and gutted, size-graded, and individually quick-frozen (IQF) at sea or in plant. As a low-fat flatfish, it freezes and holds exceptionally well; we offer either a light protective glaze (typical 5–15%) or 100% net weight per buyer spec. The BSAI fishery is among the most strictly managed and MSC-certified flatfish fisheries in the world, with catch limits, bycatch controls, and full chain-of-custody traceability — a strong, defensible sustainability story for EU, US, Japanese, and Korean buyers.

FAQ

A. Procurement / Trade

What is your MOQ, and can different products be mixed in one container? Standard MOQ is one 20' reefer container (approx. 11–14 MT) or one 40' reefer (approx. 24–28 MT) depending on pack; mixed loading with other frozen seafood items from our catalog is available subject to compatible storage temperature and carton dimensions.

What is the production lead time, and what Incoterms do you offer? Typical lead time is about 7–20 days after order confirmation and receipt of deposit. We trade on FOB, CIF, and CFR terms. Main loading ports: Fuzhou / Xiamen / Qingdao, China.

What payment terms do you accept? We accept T/T (30% deposit, 70% against copy of B/L) and L/C at sight for qualified buyers.

Can you provide samples? What is the sample cost and lead time? Frozen sole samples require an intact cold chain; where feasible we ship reference samples frozen with temperature control. Sample and international courier costs are borne by the buyer (or deducted from the first official order). Sample lead time is 5–7 working days.

B. Documents / Compliance

What export documents do you provide? We supply Health Certificate, Certificate of Origin, Catch Certificate / IUU Declaration, Certificate of Analysis (COA), Heavy Metal & Microbiology Analysis, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, and Bill of Lading. HALAL certificate, MSC chain-of-custody, and EU-approved establishment number are issued where required by destination.

Which certifications apply to this product? HACCP, BRC, HALAL, and ISO 22000 as standard; FDA registration and MSC (BSAI origin) available on request. (Note: yellowfin sole is wild-caught, so we offer MSC / fishery traceability rather than farm-based ASC, which does not apply.)

What is the country of origin and FAO fishing area? How is traceability managed? Processed in China (CN) from Limanda aspera raw material sourced from the North Pacific — primarily the Bering Sea / Aleutian Islands (FAO areas 61 / 67), with Russian Western Bering / Sea of Okhotsk material also available. Each lot carries a batch code linked to catch and processing records for full traceability.

C. Specs / Logistics

What are the carton specifications and container loading? Standard packing: 10 kg/ctn (bulk), also 4.5 kg or 6 kg cartons and 1 kg retail PE bags per market. Approx. 24–28 MT per 40' reefer / 11–14 MT per 20' reefer depending on pack config; palletization available.

What is the remaining shelf life at shipment, and how do you guarantee cold-chain integrity? Minimum 24 months from production; we ensure at least 22–23 months remaining at shipment. Reefer set at -18°C (±1°C) with optional temperature logger; containers are pre-cooled before loading.

Do you offer OEM / private label / custom specifications? Yes. We support OEM, private label, and custom spec — presentation (HGT tail-on / tail-off, whole round, fillet), per-piece weight grade (80–500 g bands or destination counts), glaze % (5–15% typical, or 100% net weight), net weight (100% / 95% / 90%), and labeling adjustments.

D. Technical Clarification

Which species is this — and how do I distinguish yellowfin sole from other sole/flounder to avoid substitution disputes? This is Limanda aspera (yellowfin sole / golden plaice), a Pleuronectidae flatfish. Do not confuse it with rock sole (Lepidopsetta spp.), Alaska plaice (Pleuronectes quadrituberculatus), rex sole (Glyptocephalus zachirus), or true soles (Solea spp.) — they differ in size, fillet yield, and market. Allergen declaration: Fish (flatfish). Clear Latin-name labeling prevents substitution claims with buyers expecting a different flatfish.

What does "HGT" mean, and how does it differ from whole round and fillet — tail-on or tail-off? HGT = Headed, Gutted, Tail-on (tail-off on request): head and viscera removed, fish otherwise whole and bone-in. Whole round = intact fish; fillet = boneless skinless cut. HGT gives the buyer a near-ready portion with minimal yield loss versus filleting, and is the dominant commodity form alongside fillets for Korea / Japan / Taiwan / Europe.

Is this farmed or wild, and which sustainability certification applies? Yellowfin sole is wild-caught (Bering Sea / Aleutian Islands). The BSAI flatfish fishery has been MSC-certified (chain of custody since 2010), giving buyers a recognized sustainability credential for EU / US / Japan / Korea. ASC (aquaculture) does not apply because the species is not farmed.

What HS code should I declare for HGT? HGT fish are not filleted, so the correct base code is generally HS 0303.89 (frozen fish, not filleted — "other"). Note: some customs brokers classify HGT under HS 0304 ("other fish meat") because the head/guts are removed; confirm the exact subheading with your broker to avoid clearance delays.
