Frozen Giant Grenadier Steak

IQF Giant Grenadier Steak

IQF Giant Grenadier Steak is a portion cut made from the giant grenadier (Albatrossia pectoralis) — a deep-sea rattail fish (family Macrouridae, order Gadiformes) caught in the Northwest Pacific (FAO area 61, off Russia's Okhotsk and Bering Seas). The fish is dressed (headed and gutted), then cut into cross-section steaks and individually quick-frozen (IQF) for free-flowing, portion-control convenience. A true fish product — NOT squid, NOT crustacean, NOT mollusc — valued as a lean, mild white fish for cooked preparations.

What It Is

Our IQF Giant Grenadier Steak is produced from wild-caught Albatrossia pectoralis, typically Russian-caught and processed in China. After heading and gutting, the fish is cross-cut into uniform steaks — bone-in center-cut or boneless per buyer specification — then individually quick-frozen, lightly glazed to spec, metal-detected, and packed for cold storage. The result retains a mild flavor and flaky white flesh with a 24-month frozen shelf life at -18°C.

FAQ

A. Procurement / Trade

What is your MOQ, and can different products be mixed in one container? Standard MOQ for this item is one 20' reefer container (approx. 11–14 MT) or one 40' reefer (approx. 24–28 MT) depending on pack; mixed loading with other frozen seafood items from our catalog is available subject to compatible storage temperature and carton dimensions.

What is the production lead time, and what Incoterms do you offer? Typical lead time is about 7–20 days after order confirmation and receipt of deposit. We trade on FOB, CIF, and CFR terms. Main loading ports: Fuzhou / Xiamen / Qingdao, China.

What payment terms do you accept? We accept T/T (30% deposit, 70% against copy of B/L) and L/C at sight for qualified buyers.

Can you provide samples? What is the sample cost and lead time? IQF giant grenadier steak samples require an intact cold chain; where feasible we ship reference samples frozen with temperature control. Sample and international courier costs are borne by the buyer (or deducted from the first official order). Sample lead time is 5–7 working days.

B. Documents / Compliance

What export documents do you provide? We supply Health Certificate, Certificate of Origin, Catch Certificate / IUU Declaration, Certificate of Analysis (COA), Heavy Metal & Microbiology Analysis, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, and Bill of Lading. EU-approved establishment number and HALAL certificate are issued where required by destination.

Which certifications apply to this product? HACCP and HALAL as standard; BRC, ISO 22000, FDA registration, and EU approval can be supplied on request. MSC is available where the source fishery is certified; otherwise we provide fishery-traceability documents. (Note: Albatrossia pectoralis is wild-caught, so ASC — an aquaculture certification — does not apply.)

What is the country of origin and FAO fishing area? How is traceability managed? Country of origin: China (CN) for processing; raw material Albatrossia pectoralis caught in FAO area 61 (Northwest Pacific, off Russia's Okhotsk/Bering Seas) by longline/trawl. Each lot carries a batch code linked to catch and processing records for full traceability.

C. Specs / Logistics

What are the carton specifications and container loading? Standard packing: 1 kg/bag × 10 ctn; 10 kg/carton bulk; vacuum PE retail bags available. Approx. 24–28 MT per 40' reefer / 11–14 MT per 20' reefer depending on pack config; palletization available.

What is the remaining shelf life at shipment, and how do you guarantee cold-chain integrity? Minimum 24 months from production; we ensure at least 22–23 months remaining at shipment. Reefer set at -18°C (±1°C) with optional temperature logger; containers are pre-cooled before loading.

Do you offer OEM / private label / custom specifications? Yes. We support OEM, private label, and custom spec — freezing method (IQF standard; block frozen on request), glaze % (typical 5–15%, or 100% net weight), steak size (100–200 / 200–300 / 300 g+), cut (bone-in center-cut or boneless), and labeling adjustments.

D. Technical Clarification

What species is giant grenadier, and is it pollock or cod? Giant grenadier is Albatrossia pectoralis — a deep-sea rattail (family Macrouridae, order Gadiformes). It is NOT Alaska pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) and NOT true cod (Gadus spp.), although it is in the broader cod order and is sometimes marketed as "deep-sea cod." Allergen: Fish (not crustacean, not mollusc). Accurate Latin-name labeling avoids misclassification in customs and menus.

Why does accurate naming matter, and how should the steak be handled? In the China market this species is often traded as "水鳕鱼" (shuǐ xuě yú, "water cod"), which has caused consumer confusion with oilfish (油鱼, Lepidocybium flavobrunneum) — a different, laxative-risk fish. To protect your buyers, we recommend labeling with the Latin name Albatrossia pectoralis and "deep-sea grenadier," not a bare "cod" claim. The steak is a cross-cut portion (bone-in center or boneless); thaw under refrigeration (0–4°C) and cook thoroughly — it is intended for cooked formats (pan-fry, grill, hot-pot, steam), not raw/sashimi by default.
