Russian Walleye Pollock Prices Remain High, Driving Up Prices in the Downstream Fillet Market

Recently, the market price of Russian walleye pollock has remained firm at a high level. Driven by the pre-Spring Festival supply and demand dynamics, prices have continued to rise, and the downstream walleye pollock fillet segment has also seen price adjustments affected by the raw material side.
At present, the mainstream transaction price of walleye pollock H&G in the Bering Sea is maintained at 1,700–1,720 US dollars per ton, and the quotation for the same specification of walleye pollock H&G in the Sea of Okhotsk is about 1,650 US dollars per ton. Prices of supplies from core producing areas are all at a high level.
From the perspective of market supply and demand, on the one hand, the production capacity of Russian fishing vessels for walleye pollock H&G is limited from January to February, with part of the capacity shifted to deep-processed products such as fillets and surimi, leading to a tight supply on the raw material side; on the other hand, the pre-Spring Festival stock replenishment demand in the domestic market has been released, and the procurement demand has supported the upward movement of raw material prices.
The high raw material prices have been directly transmitted to the downstream processing sector. At present, quotations for individually quick-frozen (IQF) PBO walleye pollock fillets have been raised. Affected by EU tariffs, the cost of Russian walleye pollock fillets is even higher than that of similar American products. Meanwhile, second-frozen walleye pollock fillets are also facing price adjustment pressure. With high costs such as raw materials and logistics, processing enterprises are under pressure on profit margins, and a price adjustment has become a highly probable trend.
Overall, the tight supply and demand pattern in the Russian walleye pollock industrial chain will persist before the Spring Festival, with a clear upward trend in market prices.
