In the first half of 2025, data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) shows that China has surpassed the US to become Vietnam's largest seafood export market.
Specifically, Vietnam's seafood exports to China reached $1.1 billion, with a 45% year-on-year growth; exports to the US stood at $905 million, up 17.5% year-on-year — this growth was mainly driven by a surge in orders in May, as enterprises rushed to complete transactions before the US imposed tariff hikes on July 9.
Notably, shrimp, pangasius, and tuna remain the key products in Vietnam's exports to the US, accumulating over $700 million in revenue in the first half of the year, accounting for 77% of total exports to the US.
VASEP noted that Vietnamese enterprises need to promote market diversification in the future to reduce over-reliance on the US market.
