Beihai Oysters Obtain New National Standard!

Official Release of Geographical Indication Product: Beihai Oysters, Effective from August
On May 30, 2023, the Administration for Market Regulation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region officially approved and issued the local standard Geographical Indication Product: Beihai Oysters (DB45/T 2670-2023). Taking effect on August 30, 2023, this standard lays a solid standardized foundation for the quality improvement and brand development of Beihai oysters.
With a breeding history spanning over 300 years and hailed as the "milk of the sea", Beihai oysters are a signature specialty of Beihai, Guangxi, renowned for their unique quality and profound cultural heritage. Back on July 30, 2018, Beihai oysters were recognized as a National Geographical Indication Protected Product by the National Intellectual Property Administration, acquiring national-level quality certification.
The newly released local standard unifies regulations across the entire industrial chain, including terminology and definitions, protection scope, product specifications, inspection methods, inspection rules, marking and labeling, packaging, transportation and storage, thus establishing a complete standardized system from production to circulation.
The implementation of this standard will not only standardize the whole production process of Beihai oysters and boost output and economic benefits, but also help build a regional characteristic brand, and improve the standardized system for local aquatic products. Meanwhile, it will further regulate the use of geographical indication marks, enhance overall quality management and market recognition of Beihai oysters, and strengthen the competitiveness of this iconic brand of Beihai.
From national geographical indication protection to the implementation of local standards, Beihai oysters are advancing along the path of standardization and branding to polish its prestigious reputation as a specialty aquatic product. With more stable quality and standardized management in the future, Beihai oysters will expand into broader global markets.
